Julian was appointed to the board in November 2009, having spent one year shadowing Bill Bower on the Academy. Julian is also head of the Education Committee which drives the Academy.

He is a partner specialising in insurance and reinsurance at Beachcroft LLP. For the most part his practice is contentious, focusing on coverage issues and reinsurance collections, whether in arbitration or in litigation. He has been involved in some of the largest disputes in the market in recent years, such as the Pender litigation, the film finance and tax cases, Bermuda Form disputes, and the Innovator litigation.

Julian is also a member of the Reinsurance Committee of the Insurance Institute of London.
